I hate to be the lone voice of dissent but this article...rubbed me the wrong way. I'll explain.

While it's great to celebrate the positive qualities of a different paradigm, I feel we don't need to belittle the other paradigm at the same time. Some quotes you list:

"If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done ask a woman" Margaret Thatcher

"The with some women is they get all excited about nothing - and then they marry him." Cher

I can't help but find such a double-standard here. If it were men saying this about women, they'd get tarred and feathered with impunity. But because it's women, suddenly we're all right with them knocking men down for humor. This is the kind of amusment I find repulsive because I don't believe in making below the belt jokes at either sex nor snarky remarks. Quotes like this are FAR from heartwarming and only show that the downtrodden are capable of an equal level of rudeness, contempt, and apathetic attitude reserved for the other side.

Secondly, I don't believe women surpass anyone in terms of human qualities. They're no better or worse than men. Just like men are no better or worse than women.

I'd go so far as to say they can take a turn into the darkside and inflict suffering and harm on any creature or human.

You see, I'm a survivor of bullying and abuse from women and girls as well as boys and men. I've yet to find a caring eye from society to address the former half of my hurt while they're readily available if the trauma includes boys and men who harmed me. There were times when I wanted to kill myself during serious triggers. But I pressed on knowing that, someday, I will find peace and validation in even the worst of times.

Elevating women beyond reason while putting down men erases my experiences, consigns me to the cracks with the danger of falling through. If you want to know more, read "Trigger Happy" and "Narrative Streams", two articles I contributed to SearchWarp.com

Yes, we should celebrate International Women's Day and Women's History Month. But do it without belittling men or making women out to be more than what they are: Individuals with accomplishments. That is the context I will celebrate this month in. But nothing more.

Thank you.

Only my opinon.  Take what you will of it.

Poor men, they have been repressed by society for so long it's time that women take their heels out of the middle of their backs. Next thing you know men are going to want the right to vote...or be considered equal. Now that's something I just don't think God would have wanted. Poor men!

It's about being decent to people. That's all.

Poor men? You find it funny that I was treated like dirt by girls and women? That the abuse I endured is a barrell of laughs? Just because I'm a man, I have to put up with comments like those I've highlighted?

Being repressed by society for so long doesn't give you any right to scorn someone like me who's had his fair share of hardships dealt by both sexes.

Nothing personal, but I've heard variations of your comment before everytime I try to speak out. No big shock.

But I'm not going to be silent. Not anymore.

Again, read "Narrative Streams" and "Trigger Happy" to see the voice you're mocking with that tone. To hear its plight. Listen for a change instead of shouting it down with dark sarcasm.

I repeat, I have no issue with celebrating International Women's Day and Women's History Month. What I take umbrage with is doing it while making below the belt jokes and remarks about men, putting women over men.

Just treat others with decency while celebrating your accomplishments. I'll do the same, likewise. That's all I ask.

I apologise to the people who run Searchwarp.com if I've gone too far.  But there are just some things I can't keep mum about.

Once again, only my opinion.

Hey Tim I didn't mean to belittle anybody's personal emotional malaise. I actually meant to leave that comment on the main article, not as a response to your comment. I accidentally clicked on the wrong comment option because I had read them all and was at the bottom of the page and it didn't give me the option of removing it and putting it in the proper place, only to edit it, so I apologize if you were adversely affected by my comment. The article was about celebration of women's contributions to our society and not anybody's personal experiences or history of abuse, so my response was a reaction to your ambivalence exhibited towards celebrating this very worthy dedication to women. All abuse in any form or fashion should be excoriated and is inexcusable but not what this article was about. So yes my comment was intended to deflect the attention from abuse to the intended content of the article, but for the authors consumption and not necessarily a response to your comment. My apologies.

Oh. In that case, my apologies as well.

It's hard to tell what is a response to a comment and what is a response intended for the author sometimes.

I'm not ambivelent. Celebrations like the one outlined are needed. I'm only cautious about it because things tend to go too far.

Those two quotations bothered me. Doesn't mean I'm ambivelent towards the cause.

Anyway, thanks for clearing it up.
